60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Myanmar and Japan
Myanmar and Japan mark the 60th anniversary of their establishment of diplomatic relations in 2014.
Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Shinzo Abe paid an official visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in May 2013, which was the first visit by Prime Minister of Japan in 36 years. During the visit, PM Abe and President of Myanmar U Thein Sein held the Japan-Myanmar summit meeting in Nay Pyi Taw and agreed to further promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Therefore, the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar plans to carry out various events and projects to celebrate this milestone. At the same time, organisations and private sectors interested in promoting the bilateral friendship and mutual understanding are encouraged to organise events showcasing exchange between Myanmar and Japan.
The scope of the anniversary events are in a wide range of fields including politics, economy, education, science and technology, culture, society, sports etc, through which the history of the exchange between Myanmar and Japan can be reviewed and the future vision of the relationships of the two countries can be demonstrated. Through these events and projects, the mutual understanding among the people of the two countries is expected to be further deepened, resulting in the stronger and closer tie of Myanmar and Japan.
