Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of Moekaung Monastic Middle School and Tike Kyaung Monastic Primary School in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, through Japan’s Grass-Roots Assistance
The hand-over and opening ceremonies of Moekaung Monastic Middle School and Tike Kyaung Monastic Primary School in Myingyan Township in Mandalay Region took place on December 14, 2013 respectively. Mr. Toshio YAMAMOTO, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Japan, respective committee chairmen and committee members of each school construction project and students and local residents attendee these ceremonies.
These two monastic schools were opened to provide free schooling and textbooks for the children from poor families. In these villages, residents cannot afford to children’s education because of struggles for their daily livelihood. Since they need to help their parents in farming, the drop-out rate of children from the two villages is very high.
At the ceremony, Mr. Yamamoto, minister-counselor asked for the audience two things; the first one is for the students to graduate from this monastic school at least, and the second one is to take care the maintenance of the school building for long-term utilization. After the speech, Chief Monk Sayadaws of two monastic schools mentioned that education is a crucial link to the future of children. He reiterated the importance of education and said that educated persons can go anywhere in the world. He also urged the parents to cooperate and concentrate on the building of brighter future of the children.
The Japanese Government granted USD89,785 for Tike Kyaung Monastic Primary School and USD90,489 for Moekaung Monastic Middle School. The Government of Japan intends to provide this kind of grassroots grant assistance in education sector to support the people in this country. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar.

The hand-over and opening ceremonies of two monastic schools in Shwe Pyi Village and Taung Inn Village of Singu Township, Mandalay Region took place on December 13, 2013 respectively. Mr.Toshio YAMAMOTO, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan, respective committee chairmen and committee members of each school construction project and students and local residents attended these ceremonies.
These two schools does not have proper school buildings and the classrooms located mainly at the monastic buildings. The classes are often be cancelled whenever the religious ceremonies are held at the monastery. These two new school buildings through GGP scheme will benefit many students with better learning environment.
At the ceremony, Mr. Yamamoto explained about Terakoya of Japan that during the Edo period in Japan, there was Terakoya where basic writing, reading and calculation were taught. Through the system of Terakoya, the Japanese people had achieved a high degree of literacy rate in the world contributing to the high growth rate in development of Japan. He also mentioned that in Myanmar, education is the key point for its development and the Government of Japan has planned to continue its assistance in education sector of Myanmar in future as well.
The Japanese Government granted USD107,290 for No.17 Shwe Pyi Village Monastic Primary School and USD98,572 for No.13 Taung Inn Village Monastic Primary School. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar.
Hand-over Ceremony of medical equipment provided to Jivitadana Sangha Hospital in Yangon Region under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme
The hand over and opening ceremony of Parlikaritulut Monastic Post Primary School in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region took place on Nov 20, 2013. The hand-over and opening ceremony was attended by Ms. Sumie ARIMA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Maung Ko, the Chairman of school building construction committee and members headed by Chief Monk Sayadaw, students of the schools and local people.
At the ceremony, Ms. Arima said, on behalf of the Embassy of Japan and Japanese people, that upgrading the environment of basic education is one of the priority areas of Japan’s assistance. She also expressed her expectation that the students from this school will contribute the development of Myanmar in future. On the program of ceremony, was printed special celebration poem that expressed their sincere gratitude to the Japanese Government and Japanese people.

The government of Japan provided the fund USD 109,045 under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for construction of a one-story reinforced concrete RHC with 6 classrooms, school furniture, toilets and walkway. The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme has a plan to continue to assist for education sector of Myanmar in future as well. The hand-over ceremony of 3 medical equipment to Jivitadana Sangha Hospital in Bahan Township,Yangon Region was held on Nov 26, 2013. It was attended by Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Japan, Retired Brigadier General U Tint Swe, Patron of Myanmar Association of Japan Alumni (MAJA) and the Jivitadana Sangha Hospital Management Committee, U Maung Maung, President of Hospital Management Committee, Committee members and medical staff of the hospital.
At the ceremony, Mr. Maruyama, mentioned in his speech that this kind of assistance supported for health sector development gives the positive impact on the human resource development which is the main key for sustainable growth of every nation. President of Jivitadana Sangha Hospital Management Committee, U Maung Maung expressed his appreciation to the Japanese Government and its people and mentioned that this assistance will give better health care services to monks and nuns, the poor of Myanmar at that 200 bedded hospital which is also serving about 13,000 out-patients per month by the 150 volunteer specialists.
The government of Japan provided USD $85,415, under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, for one Holmun laser for Urology Department, one Phaco machine for Eye Department and one Shortwave Diathemy for Physical Medicine Department of the Jivitadana Sangha Hospital. The Government of Japan is planning to continue assistance for the health sector of Myanmar in future as well. Japanese Government expects that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.

Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of Thayargon Village Branch High School in Yangon Region, constructed by Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme
The hand-over and opening ceremony of Thayargon Village Branch High School in Hmawbi Township, Yangon Region took place on November 22, 2013. It was attended by Ms. Fumie TOKUNAGA, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Min Zaw, Director of the Department of Basic Education No (3), U Maung Maung Toe, Northern District Education Officer of Yangon Region, School Building Construction Committee members and the local people.
At the ceremony, Ms. TOKUNAGA said, on behalf of the Embassy of Japan and Japanese people, that she was proud of the hand-over and opening ceremony of new school building and wished that the students from that school will contribute to the development of Myanmar in future. U Min Zaw, Director of the Department of Basic Education No (3), mentioned in his speech that thanks to GGP Scheme by the good will of the Government of Japan and its people, a new school building was constructed to help the people in need. He urged the students, teachers and local residents to pay attention on maintenance of the school building for long-term utilization.
U Maung Maung Toe, the Northern District Education Officer of Yangon Region, also mentioned in his speech that the number of students are increasing year by year and more and more school buildings are in need all over the country and Ministry of Education will continue to make efforts to upgrade the present education system. He also urged the students to study hard at this newly constructed school building donated by the good will of the Government of Japan and Japanese people.
The Government of Japan, under the Scheme of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, provided USD93,424 for construction of a one-storey RC building with 3 classrooms equipped with school furniture, toilets and walkway. The Government of Japan has plan to continue the assistance in education sector of Myanmar in future as well. Japanese Government expects that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.

Bago Region, constructed by Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme
The hand-over and opening ceremony of Yay Dwin Gone Rural Health Center in Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region took place on Nov 15, 2013. It was attended by U Saw Jubilee San Hla, Kayin Affairs Minister of the Government of Bago Region, Ms. Fumie TOKUNAGA, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Soe Myint, Pyithu Hluttaw Representative of Nyaunglebin Township, Dr.Nay Myo Ohn, Bago Region Health Director, RHC Building Construction Committee members and local people.
At the ceremony, Ms. Tokunaga said, on behalf of the Embassy and Japanese people, that she was so pleased and proud of the new rural health center and wished that this rural health center would provide good health care services for local residents in Nyaunglebin Township. U Saw Jubilee San Hla, Kayin Affairs Minister of the Government of Bago Region expressed his sincere gratitude that the incredible rural health center built by the support of Japanese people and the Government of Japan gives the hope for the improvement of health care services system of 13,398 beneficiaries from 23 villages in the surrounding area.

Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of Three Water Supply Projects
in Sagaing and Magway Region
The hand-over and opening ceremonies of Water Supply Systems in Parami Ward of Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region; Kyaw Ywa Village of Myaing Township and Taung Thar Village of Chauk Township in Magway Region which were constructed under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme were held on September 12, 13 and 14, 2013 respectively. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, granted the following projects:
1. “The Project for Construction of Parami Water Supply System in Sagaing Township in Sagaing Region”, US$116,464,
2. “The Project for Construction of Kyaw Ywa Village Water Supply System in Myaing Township in Magway Region”, US$110,545 and
3. “The Project for Construction of Taung Thar Village Water Supply System in Chauk Township in Magway Region” , US$85,029.
Mr. Go NAKAYA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Tint Hlaing Myint, Minister for Development Affairs of the Government of Sagaing Region, Government Officials and Administrative Officials of Township, District and Sagaing Region, Parami Ward Water Supply System Implementation Committee together with ward residents attended the ceremony at Sagaing Parami Ward. At Kyaw Ywa Village and Taung Thar Village of Myaing and Chauk Townships, Mr. Go NAKAYA, local administrators, Water Supply Committee and members together with village people attended the ceremonies respectively.
Parami Ward, newly expanded and established in 1990, which is currently situated in the middle part of Sagaing City is about 1.5 miles away from the Ayeyarwady River at the western side of Sagaing Mountain Range. Residents in Parami Ward depend on tube-well water that contains high percentage of lime, and they cannot have sufficient water in dry seasons. At Kyaw Ywa Village in Myaing Township and Taung Thar Village in Chauk Township, the cost for access to safe water is high for the residents and it hinders the development of the villages in their education, health and socio-economic activities. It also affects the cattle in summer time.
At each ceremony, Mr. Go NAKAYA mentioned that Japanese Government is giving Grant Aid of 650 million Japanese Yen (6.5 billions in Kyats) to Myanmar for another water supply project in Central Dry Zone(CDZ). Under this grant aid, drilling rigs for digging tube-wells in CDZ will be provided to the Department of Rural Area Development. By using these drilling equipment tube-wells will be constructed at 15 villages in Sagaing Region and 45 villages in Magway Region. He also mentioned that about 600 GGP projects have been supported by the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar in the past 20 years.
Local residents at each project site expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan and Japanese people for receiving these water supply systems which will surely improve their lifestyles.
HAND-OVER CEREMONY OF FIRE ENGINES AND FIRE HOSES OF
THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR GRASSROOTS HUMAN SECURITY PROJECTS SCHEME NAMELY “THE PROJECT FOR STRENGTHENING OF MYANMAR FIRE SERVICES DEPARTMENT” WAS HELD IN NAY PYI TAW
The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has extended the assistance of US$122,066 for humanitarian assistance program for importation of second hand fire service vehicles and fire hoses for strengthening the Fire Services Department of Myanmar.
The second hand equipment donated by Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy(SPJD), Japan Myanmar Association for Culture & Economic Exchange(JMACE) and importation cost granted by the GGP Scheme includes:
1) 3 Pumpers with tank
2) 1 Fire Engine
3) 2 Rescue Trucks
4) 1 Commander Car
5) 1 Ambulance and
6) 1150 Fire Hoses
Hand-over ceremony of the said equipment was held at Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC) in Nay Pyi Taw on July 9, 2013 and it was attended by H.E. Lt-Gen Ko Ko, Union Minister for Home Affairs and H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador of Japan. Mr. Osamu Uno, Chairman of JMACE also attended the hand-over ceremony together with the invited guests and officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Fire Service Department.
The Union Minister Lt-Gen Ko Ko mentioned in his speech that 70% of the disasters occurred in Myanmar every year is due to fire break-outs and therefore Myanmar is trying to improve Fire Services Department. He expressed his thanks to the Japanese people and the government for donating the needy fire vehicles and hoses.
The Ambassador pointed out in his key note that in the field of Fire Service, Disaster Prevention and Rescue Activities, it is important to share Japanese experience and lessons learnt with as many concerned counterparts as possible. Thus, Japanese Government would like to continue its cooperation furthermore.
The Ambassador handed over related documents to U Tin Moe, Director General of the Fire Services Department who returned with his words of thanks to the Japanese government and its people.
It is expected that this assistance will provide the people of Myanmar the safety of their properties and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.

The hand over and opening ceremony of Min Kyaung Monastic Post Primary in Sittwe Township, Rakhine State took place July 5, 2013. Ms. Arima, Second Secretary of Embassy of Japan in Yangon, U Thar Nyunt, Vice Chairperson of Rakhine State Hluttaw, Dr.Aung Kyaw Min, Minister for Social Affairs, U Tha Lu Chay, Minister for Electric Power and Industry, U Aung Than Tin, Minister for Forestry and Mines of Rakhine State Government and the school building construction committee members headed by Chief Monk Sayadaw, together with the local people attended the said ceremony.
At the ceremony, Ms. Arima said, on behalf of the Embassy and Japanese people that she was proud of the new school building and wished that the students from this school will contribute the development of Myanmar in future. After that speech, Chief Monk Sayadaw of Min Kyaung Monastic Post Primary School expressed his appreciation to Japanese government and Japanese people for this assistance. He also explained three objectives of Monastic School which are to get formal education for children from poor families, to increase employment rate of local people and to get systematical education. Although construction committees faced many problems in building school due to the recent unrest in the area, finally they finished the school completely. He mentioned in his greeting that he has no words how to express his deep thanks to construction committee and the government of Japan. Lastly he urged the students, teachers and local people to take care of maintenance of the school building for long-term utilization.

Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of Nat Maw Monastic Middle School
in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region
The hand-over and opening ceremony of a school building at Nat Maw Middle School in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region was held on June 25, 2013.It was constructed under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme.
The hand-over and opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Hideaki Matsuo, Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Kyaw Win, Chairman of the School Supervision Committee, responsible officials from respective organizations and local residents.
At the ceremony, Mr Matsuo said in his remarks “We hope this school is maintained with care for ever, and this improved condition for education will bring the school children to be well educated generation of Myanmar who can contribute themselves for the development of the country.”
Chief monk, Sayadaw Ashin Baddanta Nyanissara, said in his speech that this newly reinforced concrete school building will provide better educational environment to the children. He believes that this assistance is significant for not only Nat Maw School but also whole Myanmar.
On the next day of the ceremony, teaching class was started for with the children of Grade 1 and 2 in the newly constructed building. Although former school building had small windows, less light beam and no rainfall from the ceiling during the rainy season, new building has many brand new facilities with children’s happy smiles. In the interview, many school children replied that they have a particular fondness of their desks and chairs.
The Japanese Government granted USD91,048 for the construction of this school building. The Government of Japan intends to provide this kind of grassroots grant assistance in various sectors to support the people in this country. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar.
Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of Pakokku Monastic Middle School
in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region
The hand-over and opening ceremony of a school building at Pakokku Middle School in Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region was held on June 24, 2013.It was constructed under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme.
The hand-over and opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Hideaki Matsuo, Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Win Swe, Minister for Electricity and Industry in Tanintharyi Region, responsible officials from respective organizations and local residents.
At the ceremony, Mr Matsuo said in his remarks “260 numbers of school building have been constructed or renovated under the Education Sector of GGP Scheme in Myanmar so far. From now on also, we would like to continue this assistance for further.”
Then, Regional Minister H.E.U Win Swe mentioned in his speech that turning to the opening page of a history book, the people can read a story about relationship between Japan and Myanmar, and it shows how our relationship is so close. H.E. U Win Swe also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Japanese people for their long lasting kind assistance, and the relationship between the two countries.
The Pakokku Monastic School takes care of children who are orphanage or from poor families in the border area with Thailand, then provides education to them. Currently, there are 280 school children in the Monastery, increasing more than 100 compared to the last year. Some children bring their friends others, who are not attending school, to go to the school together from their home town during their school holiday season. The monastic school provides not only school subjects but also Myanmar culture and polite manners.
The Japanese Government granted USD81,520 for the construction of this school building and toilets. The Government of Japan intends to provide this kind of grassroots grant assistance in various sectors to support the people in this country. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation, between Japan and Myanmar.
Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of Four Bridges
in Hlaingbwe Township, Kayin State
The hand-over and opening ceremony of four bridges in Hlaingbwe Township, Kayin State which was constructed under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme was held on June 22, 2013.
In the region, military conflicts have continued in the past decades, and many people have fled to Thailand and other regions within the country.
H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, H.E. U Kyaw Lwin, Union Minister for Construction, H.E. U Zaw Min, Chief Minister of Kayin State and members of Hlaingbwe Township Road and Bridge Supervision Committee together with local people attended the ceremony.
Ambassador Numata said in his remark that Japan has been providing assistance proactively for Myanmar’s democratization, measures to ethnic minority and national reconciliation, and that he is very pleased with the completion of the significant reinforced concrete bridges constructed by Public Works under the Ministry of Construction. The Ambassador also mentioned that the bridges are funded by Japanese people’s tax money and that he hopes the Myanmar people will remember the friendly relationship between Japan and Myanmar reflected on these bridges.
A resident of the nearby village who attended the ceremony said, “Many young villagers in this area have fled to Thailand to avoid recruitment as a porter for the armed groups in the past years. Since there will be the industrial zone near Hpa-an connected by the bridge, I hope they will come back to work in this township.”
The government of Japan provided the fund US$ 632,466 for construction of four reinforced concrete bridges. The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, will continue to assist Myanmar in future as well. As for the Japanese Government, it is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.

The hand over and opening ceremony of new Kindergarten building in SaizenVillage, Tiddim Township, Chin State which was constructed under Japanese Government’s the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme was held on April 7, 2013.Ms.Arima, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U NaingKyintPaung, Chairman of construction committee together with the local people attended the said ceremony.
At the ceremony, Ms. Arima said on behalf of the Embassy of Japan and Japanese people that she was very pleased and proud of the hand over and opening ceremony of new kindergarten building.She also expressed her expectation that the kindergarten students are treasures of the Myanmar’s future and that the new kindergarten building can be used by young students joyfully. After that speech, Chairman of Construction Committee, U Naing Kyint Paung expressed said that a new kindergarten building has been finished at their villageso the parents can keep their children in the kindergarten safely while they are going out for agriculture work. He deeply appreciated Japanese government and its people for this assistance.
The government of Japan provided the fund USD $ 105,369 for construction of a two-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of one hall room in first floor and three class rooms in ground floor. The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has a plan to continue to assist Myanmar in future as well. As for Japanese Government, it is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.

Handover and opening ceremony of ChaungZauk Village Branch High School
The hand over and opening ceremony of ChaungZauk Village Branch High School in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region which was constructed under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, was held on April 5, 2013.Ms. Tokunaga, Third Secretary of Embassy of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U LwinOo, Representative ofPyi Thu Hluttaw together with the local people attended the said ceremony.
At the ceremony, Ms.Tokunaga said on behalf of the embassy and Japanese people that she was proudof the hand over and opening ceremony of new school building and wished that the students from this school will contribute the development of Myanmar in future. After that speech, Pyi Thu Hluttaw Representative, U LwinOo expressed his gratitude that a great new school building has come out with tax from Japanese people and he deeply appreciated Japanese government and its people for this assistance. He also mentioned the National Plan which includes education as an important sector for the development of the country. Lastly he urged the students, teachers and local people to take care of maintenance of the school building for long-term utilization.
The government of Japan provided the fund USD $ 84,481 for construction of a one-story reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 4 classrooms, toilets, school furniture and walk way.The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme has a plan to continue to assist for Educational sector of Myanmar in future as well. Japanese Government expects that this assistance will provide a further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.

Hand-Over Ceremony of Village Community Road between Kaw War Suu and ShwePyayTaung Villageand Three Sub Rural Health Centers in Hpa- an Township, Kayin State constructed under Japan`s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project
The Government of Japan,under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme,granted US$102,350 for the construction of the road between Kaw War Suu and ShwePyayTaung Village and US$102,597for construction of three Sub Rural Health Centers (SRHC)in Hpa-an Township, Kayin State.Hand-Over ceremonies for each project were held at the project sites on 12 and 14 March, 2013 respectively.
The hand-over ceremony was attended by Mr.Go NAKAYA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, H.E. U Zaw Min, Chief Minister of Kayin State, U Saw Aung Kyaw Min, Kayin StateHluttaw Representative, U Saw Htan Law, Secretary of Kayin USDP Party, Dr.Win Naing,Kayin State Health Directorand local residents.
At the ceremony, Mr. NAKAYA said “In addition tothe construction ofRoad and SRHs in Hpa-an Township this time, GGP projects are being implemented in Hlaingbwe and Myawaddy townshipsas well. Japan hopes that this assistance will provide better environment for the people in Hpa-an townshipwith proper maintenance.”
In reply, H.E. U Zaw Minsaid “On behalf of the Kayin people, I would like to express sincere gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Japanese people for these GGP projects. We will try our best to develop our Kayin state in cooperation with the Government of Japan in the future as well.”
The Government of Japan will continue to provide support through its GGPscheme, and hopes that such assistance will strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
Opening Ceremony of the Road between Moksogyun and Tagukalon Village in Mon State, constructed by Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme
The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects(GGP) Scheme, granted onehumanitarian programfor construction of Road between Moksogyun and Tagukalon Village in Mon State.The hand-over and opening ceremony of theroadwas held on 15 February2013at the project site in Moksogyun Village.
H.E. Mr.Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U HtayOo, Vice Chairman of USDP Party, U Toe Toe Aung, Minister for Development Affairs of Mon Stateand local peopleattended the ceremony.
The Japanese Ambassador said in his remark that the construction of this village to village connection roadwill bring the development of health, education and economic sectors of the area and expressed his expection to improve the social life of the local people by this road.Then the Ambassador expressed his sincere wishes for the village people to take care of the road for its long-term durability.
U HtayOo,Vice Chairman of USDP Party, said in his speech that this newly constructed village to village connection road will be useful for the people of Moksogyun and Tagukalon Villages to commute with the town and to carry the local products to the markets throughout the year. He expressed his gratitude to the people of Japan and Japanese Government for their kindness. He also mentioned that the condition of the road will be maintained by the people of the village by raising fund by themselves.
The Government of Japan has providedUS$ 105,191for construction of2.3 m wide and 3.7 km long laterite road between Moksogyun and Tagukalon Village through its GGP Scheme. Japanese Government has plan to support the development of infrastructure sector of Myanmar in the future too. It is expected that this assistancewillfurther strengthen existing friendly relations betweenJapan and Myanmar.

Opening Ceremony of Winka Village Basic Education Primary School in Bilin Township, Mon State, constructed by Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme
The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, granted one humanitarian program for construction of WinkaVillageBasicEducationPrimary School in Bilin Township, Mon State.The hand-over ceremony and opening ceremony of the school was held on 14 February 2013 at the project site in Winka Village.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Ichiro Maruyama, Minister-Counsellor/ Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan, Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Ashin Nanissara, Dr. Htain Win, Deputy Speaker of Ayeyarwady Region Hluttaw, U Than Tun, Ayeyarwady Region Minister for Transport, U Than Tun Aung, Chairman of Ye Ga Lote Bridge Construction Committee, responsible officials from respective organizations and local residents.
H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Ohn Myint, Chief Minister and Dr. U HlaOo, Minister for Social Affairs of Mon State, and U Nyunt Soe, Mawlamyine District Education Officer and local people attended the ceremony.
The Japanese Ambassador said in his remark that by construction of this Basic Education Primary School, the school children of Winka Village will have the opportunity to study in the safe building and he expressed his expectation that this improved condition for education will bring the school children to be well educated generation of Myanmar who can contribute themselves for the development of the country.
Chief Minister also pointed out his understanding that Japan has become well developed industrialized country because it has given its education system the first priority of the country. He mentioned his willingness that Myanmar should also try its best for upgrading of the existing education system.
Chief Minister also urged the village people to take care of the school building constructed by the Japanese Government’s GGP Scheme for its longer life. He added in his remarks that by taking care of the school building for longer life, Myanmar people can pay back to the goodwill of Japanese people and Japanese Government.
The Government of Japan has provided US$ 87,613 for construction of 100’x30’ one storey RC school building with 5 classrooms, toilets and school furniture for Winka Village Basic Education Primary School through its GGP Scheme. Japanese Government has plan to support the development of education sector of Myanmar in the future too. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
