
The 7 th Japanese Literature Translation Contest hosted by the Embassy of Japan with cooperation of the Myanmar Association of Japan Alumni (MAJA) and supported by Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yangon (JCCY) was held on 11 February 2012.
The intention of the contest is to measure participants' ability to translate Japanese into Myanmar that requires a very good command of both languages. This year, the contest was not divided into categories, although there had been three levels: namely basic, intermediate and advanced until last year. 134 contestants, 42 from Mandalay and 92 form Yangon participated in the contest and translated “ KOTO no Sorane ( Hearing Things ) ” by Soseki Natsume.
Prize Winners will be selected by judges including famous translators of Japanese and Myanmar literature and be announced at the end of May. The Awarding Ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Japanese Speech Contest 2012 for which are planning to be held at the end of June.
The Embassy of Japan intends to organize similar contests and activities which present fine targets for Japanese language learners in Myanmar and to further improve their proficiency of Japanese language.
