The Japan Cup Karatedo Championship 2012

The Third Japan Cup Karatedo Championship co-hosted by the Embassy of Japan and Myanmar Karatedo Federation and supported by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yangon (JCCY) was held successfully at the Aung San Indoor Stadium in Yangon on January 19 and20, 2012.

In the Opening Ceremony, H.E. Mr. Takashi Saito, Ambassador of Japan made a speech and Dr. Win Zaw, president of Myanmar Karatedo Federation presented a commemorative gift to the Ambassador and Mr. Shigeo Hana, an executive committee member of JCCY. The ceremony was followed by demonstrations of Krate Kata by Mr. Fujikiyo Omura, Director of Japan Karate Association -World Federation, Asia Oceania Region.

This event involved a junior championship together with a senior championship which made up fourteen teams from various States and Regions and from government ministries. Altogether 155 contestants competed in individual or team kata and individual or team kumite with much vigor and strength.

After tight contests, Ko Kyaw Kyaw Htun and Ma Swe Swe Aung won the best male and female players' prizes respectively. Mr. Toru Hiroe, vice-president of JCCY awarded the trophies, 21 inches televisions to the winners. The Japan Cups were awarded by Ambassador Saito to Kayah State's women's team and Ministry of Forest's men's team.

The Embassy of Japan hopes that this event promotes Japanese traditional sport, Karate in Myanmar and the friendship between Japan and Myanmar.
