
The hand-over and opening ceremony of a school building at Nat Maw Middle School in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region was held on June 25, 2013.It was constructed under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme.
The hand-over and opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Hideaki Matsuo, Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Kyaw Win, Chairman of the School Supervision Committee, responsible officials from respective organizations and local residents.
At the ceremony, Mr Matsuo said in his remarks “We hope this school is maintained with care for ever, and this improved condition for education will bring the school children to be well educated generation of Myanmar who can contribute themselves for the development of the country.”
Chief monk, Sayadaw Ashin Baddanta Nyanissara, said in his speech that this newly reinforced concrete school building will provide better educational environment to the children. He believes that this assistance is significant for not only Nat Maw School but also whole Myanmar.
On the next day of the ceremony, teaching class was started for with the children of Grade 1 and 2 in the newly constructed building. Although former school building had small windows, less light beam and no rainfall from the ceiling during the rainy season, new building has many brand new facilities with children’s happy smiles. In the interview, many school children replied that they have a particular fondness of their desks and chairs.
The Japanese Government granted USD91,048 for the construction of this school building. The Government of Japan intends to provide this kind of grassroots grant assistance in various sectors to support the people in this country. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar.
