
The hand-over and opening ceremony of Salin Basic Education Middle School in Salin Township, Magway Region took place on February 01, 2014. It was attended by Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for National Planning and Economic Development, H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador of Japan, Dr. San Lwin, Deputy Minister for Education, U Aung Kyaw Min, Social Affairs Minister of the Government of Magway Region, Hluttaw representatives, School Building Construction Committee members, students and the local people.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Mr. NUMATA said that that trip was his second visit to Magway Region and he felt Salin as his hometown because of the hospitality of the local people. He had the honor of attending the school opening ceremony at Dr. Kan Zaw’s hometown and giving assistance to reconstruct a new school building at his school of young age. The Ambassador then urged the school construction committee members and town elders of Salin to pay attention on maintenance of the school for long-term utilization. Moreover, he also urged the students hard to be future leaders of Myanmar such as Dr. Kan Zaw.
Dr. Kan Zaw mentioned the 2nd Myanmar Development Cooperation Forum held in Nay Pyi Taw in that week concerning international assistance receiving during the time of present democracy government. He appreciated the supports given by the Government of Japan and its people which mainly contribute to the development of Myanmar. He also expressed his thanks to the GGP scheme of the Embassy of Japan, which supported new school building at his old school in 1960s.
The Japanese Government granted USD140,897 for Salin Basic Education Middle School of three storey RC school building with 9 classrooms including school furniture.
The Government of Japan has planned to continue its assistance in education sector of Myanmar in future as well. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar.
