Handover and Opening Ceremony of Yadanar Thainkha Monastic Post Primary School in Pakokku Township, Magway Region, constructed by Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme

The handover and opening ceremony of Yadanar Thainkha Monastic Post Primary School in Pakokku Township, Magway Region took place on August 18th, 2014. This ceremony was attended by U Thein Naing, Assistant Township Administrator, Township Police Major, Mr. Hideki WADA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, teachers and students, committee chairman, committee members and local residents.

At the ceremony, U Thein Naing, Assistant Township Administrator, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Japanese Government and the Japanese people for the project. He stated that this new school was built by the Government of Japan and tax paid by the Japanese people and that they wish to see development and empowerment of the Myanmar people. He concluded his speech by encouraging schoolchildren to therefore try their best to be future leaders of Myanmar.

Following that speech, Mr, Hideki WADA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, said that Japan had focused more on the education sector in the past. Taking lessons learnt from their country’s experience, the Government of Japan is offering assistance to upgrade and strengthen Myanmar’s education administration sector. The Government of Japan has assisted 312 education sector projects such as school renovation and new school construction in Myanmar. Due to high need for assistance and the importance of Myanmar’s Education sector, the Government of Japan will continue its assistance. He concluded the speech hoping that the students from this school will grow to support the future of Myanmar.

The Japanese Government provided USD 96,076 under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for the construction of the Yadanar Thainkha Monastic Post Primary School in Pakokku Township, Magway Region. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistance in the future. The Japanese Government anticipates that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar, which marks its 60 years anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
