
The handover and opening ceremony of Kwet Thit Basic Education Post Primary School in Hmawbi Township, Yangon Region took place on September 10, 2014. This ceremony was attended by U Aung Maw, Township Assistant Administrator, U Khin Maung Zin, Township Education Officer, Mr. Shoichi WATANABE, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, teachers and students, committee chairman, committee members and local residents.
At the ceremony, U Khin Maung Zin, Township Education Officer, gave a speech that “the Japanese Government and its people donated this school building. In return of their gratitude, students and teachers would have make the effort to maintain this school building for the long-term. Moreover, students would have to be diligent in their studies to improve their abilities”. Then, he encouraged students to adopt the good habits of Japanese people mentioning, “They respect the rules, they are kind-hearted and they try their best in studying.”
Following that speech, Mr. Shoichi WATANABE, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, expressed appreciation for the school construction committee and construction company as well as those who participated for the smooth completion of this new school building. He then stated, “This school building is a present from the Japanese people to the schoolchildren who are future leaders of Myanmar. Japanese people wish that the students not only maintain the school well but also try their best for the development of Myanmar.” He concluded the speech wishing for a long-lasting Myanmar-Japan friendly relation.
The Japanese Government provided US$ 116,434 under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for the construction of the Kwet Thit Basic Education Post Primary School in Hmawbi Township, Yangon Region. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistance in the future. The Japanese Government anticipates that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar, which marks its 60 years anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
