(1)Happy Flight (YAGUCHI Shinobu, 2008, 103min.)

The setting of the film is an airport and airplanes. A great variety of "aviation professionals" such as pilots, flight attendants, the ground crew, mechanics, dispatchers, controllers, and the bird patrol crew all support a single flight. They have only one mission: to secure the safety of the passengers! Today was supposed to be any other day on the job, departing on schedule and heading safely to Honolulu, but… The experience of seeing this film is fun and exciting, just like actually riding on a jumbo jet. A wonderfully entertaining film about the aviation industry chock-full of Shinobu Yaguchi's love and fascination towards airplanes has been born! |

(2)HANAMIZUKI~May your love bloom for a hundred years~ (DOI Nobuhiro, 2010, 128min.)

Using the hit song released in 2004 by singer Hitoto Yo as a motif, this is a story of pure love between a couple that never seems to be in the same place. The film dramatically portrays the ten years they choose to spend together in a long distance relationship. Director Doi Nobuhiro has previously made another romance film out of a hit song, NADA SOU SOU - Tears for You (Nada Sou Sou). Sae (Aragaki Yui) is a girl in high school who lives with her mother in Hokkaido. Her father has just died. Sae falls in love with Kohei (Ikuta Toma) who has set his sights on being a fisherman. Soon Sae goes off to Tokyo for college, and the couple who were seemingly inseparable, start to drift apart. |

In an alternate timeline, post-World War II Japan has been divided and occupied by two rival powers. Hokkaido has been annexed by the “UNION” while Honshu and the other southern islands have come under U.S. occupation. Hiroki, Takuya and Sayuri are two young boys and a girl living in Aomori, the closest province in Honshu to Hokkaido. These three young classmates become fascinated by the gigantic yet mysterious tower that they see across the Tsugaru Strait, promising that one day they will build and fly an aircraft to the tower to unravel its mystery. However, their project is abandoned after Sayuri's sudden disappearance. Three years later, Hiroki finds out that Sayuri has been in a coma for the past three years, a state that is somehow linked to the secrets of the UNION tower. |
