Handover and Opening Ceremony of No.1 Basic Education High School in Letpadan Township, Bago Region constructed by Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme

The handover and opening ceremony of No.1 Basic Education High School in Letpadan Township, Bago Region took place on October 20, 2014. This ceremony was attended by Ms. Satomi KIKUCHI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Thiha, Township Administrator, District and Township education officers and government officials, teachers and students, committee chairman, committee members, local residents and other stakeholders and supporters of the school.

At the ceremony, Ms. Satomi KIKUCHI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, expressed appreciation for those who participated for the smooth completion of this new school building. She then stated, “This school building is a present from the Japanese people to the schoolchildren who are future leaders of Myanmar. Japanese people wish that the students not only maintain the school well but also try their best for the development of Myanmar.” She concluded the speech wishing for a long-lasting Myanmar-Japan friendly relations.

Following that speech, Daw Kyi Win, Assistant Education Director of Tharyarwady District, gave a speech mentioning that “the aging school building built in 1956 was not convenient for the students. The Government of Japan and its people donated a new school building with good ventilation and better lighting; therefore, the students can study in a good learning environment. I believe that more educated persons will be produced from this school and they will surely contribute to the development of Myanmar. This new school building will assist not only Letpadan Township, but also the whole country.”

The Japanese Government provided US$ 112,346 under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for the construction of the No.1 Basic Education High School in Letpadan Township, Bago Region. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistances in the future. The Japanese Government anticipates that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar, which marks its 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
