
The hand-over and opening ceremony of Kandaw Village No.4 Monastic Basic Education Middle School in Pakokku Township, Magway Region took place on February 02, 2014. It was attended by Mr. Sachio OTAKI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Chief Monk Sayadaws of monastic schools in Pakokku Township, Chief Monk Sayadaw of Kandaw Monastic Middle School, U Thuzarta, School Building Construction Committee members, students and the local people.
At the ceremony, Mr. OTAKI said that school, is the place to build future of young people and, it is the essence of education system and the key mechanism for the development of Myanmar. He expressed his wishes that the students of Kandaw Monastic Middle School will grow up successfully making the most of the better education environment and create the bright future of Myanmar.
Chief Monk Sayadaw U Thuzarta explained the background history of this monastic school which opened twenty years ago. The school had lack of teaching space and it has been used religious buildings as the learning space of the students. Sayadaw said that he heard about the GGP scheme of the Embassy of Japan from other monastic schools in the township and he submitted the application form to fulfill the need of the school. He added that his dream came true and he was happy and proud of completion of that school and opening of that grand school building. He finally mentioned his hope that the poor students studying at his school would benefit from better education environment by using that new and grand school building.
The Japanese Government granted USD105,845 for Kandaw Monastic Middle School of two storey RC school building with 8 classrooms including school furniture.
The Government of Japan has planned to continue its assistance in education sector of Myanmar in future as well. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar.
