Japan Grants USD $121,450 for Basic Education High Schoolin Ayeyarwady Region through its Grass-roots Assistance

The handover and opening ceremony of the Thingangone Village Basic Education High School in Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region took place on 10th December, 2014.

This ceremony was attended by Mr. Kazuhiro YAMAMOTO, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Daw Khin Saw Mu, Social Minister of Ayeyarwady Region, Daw Khin Than Myint, Pyittu Hluttaw Representative, teachers and students, Committee Chairman and committee members of the construction project and local residents.

At the ceremony, Daw Khin Saw Mu stated, “Although Myanmar is rich in natural resources, country development cannot rely on selling the natural resources. The development trend is changing to focusing on producing export goods; therefore, we need human resources experts in these areas. For that, education plays a vital role. The Myanmar Government has been focusing on education and health sectors development. Although the Government is supporting school construction, some places have gaps because of budget limits. We are very thankful to the Japanese Government and its people for the supports in necessary places.”

Following that speech, Mr. YAMAMOTO stated, “This new school building is a present from the Japanese people to the schoolchildren who are future leaders of Myanmar. The Government of Japan is offering assistance to upgrade and strengthen Myanmar’s education sector. We have assisted 321 education sector projects such as school renovation and new school construction in this country. We appreciate the efforts of the committee, the construction company and the people concerned for the implementation. This project would not be successful without their efforts.” He concluded the speech wishing for a long-lasting Japan-Myanmar friendly relations.

The Japanese Government provided US$121,450 under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for the construction of the Thingangone Village Basic Education High School in Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistances in the future, and anticipates that the assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar, which marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
