Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of Two Middle Schools in Kayah State through Japan’s Grass-Roots Assistance

On February 19, 2014, the hand-over and opening ceremonies of Nwar La Woe Village Tract Basic Education Middle School and Lawdalay Village Basic Education Middle School in Loikaw Township, Kayah State, constructed under the Japan’s Grass-Roots Assistance were held at respective project sites. Mr.Toshihiro WATANABE, second secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Saw Hu Hu, Minister for Electric Power and Industry of Kayah State and the departmental officials, respective committee members and local residents attended the ceremonies.

At the ceremony, Mr. Watanabe said that those two school projects are the special presents of the Japanese People for the children who are important for the future of Myanmar. He advised the students of two schools not only to work hard in their lessons but also to participate actively in school activities to be a meaningful student life. Again, He expressed his wish to the students, teachers and local residents to pay attention on maintenance of the school building for long-term utilization. Finally he showed his wish that the students from those schools will grow up successfully and can contribute to the establishment of brighter future of Myanmar.

After his speech, Minister for Electric Power and Industry of Kayah State, U Saw Hu Hu mentioned that in the transition period, enhancing education sector is the key point leading to the development of Myanmar. He expressed his appreciation for getting assistance from the Japanese government and its people in the reform of education sector.

The Japanese Government granted USD102,447 for construction of Nwar La Woe Village Tract Basic Education Middle School with a one-storey RC building comprised of 4 classrooms equipped with school furniture and USD120,127 for construction of Lawdalay village Basic Education Middle School with 3 buildings of one-storey RC building comprised of 6 classrooms equipped with toilets and school furniture.

The Government of Japan has planned to continue its assistance in education sector of Myanmar in future as well and it is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar in the year of 60th anniversary for establishment of diplomatic relation.
