
On March 14, 2014, the hand-over and opening ceremony of Buddha Yaungchi Monastic Post Primary School in Ayeyarwady Region, constructed under the Japan’s Grass-Roots Assistance was held on site.
Mr. Sachio OTAKI, second secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Committee Chairman and Committee members of school construction project headed by Chief Monk Sayardaw, students and local residents attended that ceremony.
In his speech at the ceremony, Mr. OTAKI said that the school is the place to educate children who will take leadership in shaping the brighter future of Myanmar. Thus, education is critical for the development of Myanmar. The Government of Japan will continue to assist in education sector of Myanmar in future as well.
After his speech, U Thein Hlaing, Chairman of Buddha Yaungchi Monastic School explained that it used to be very difficult for children even to pass the primary level. Moreover, he also mentioned that the benefits of the improved study environment at the monastic school project will further provide access to higher education. In my childhood, however, thanks to the monastic school, many children can now finish their education in high school or even university.
The Japanese Government granted USD 108,221 for construction of Buddha Yaungchi Monastic School with a one-storey RC building comprised of 6 classrooms equipped school furniture and toilet.
It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar for which celebrate 60th anniversary for establishment of diplomatic relation this year.
