
The handover and opening ceremony of Nyaung Wine Bridge took place in Hinthada Township, Ayeyarwady Region on 7th May 2015.
The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, Mr. Kota WATANABE, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Htay Oo, Vice Chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), U San Htay, Ayeyarwady Region Administrator and Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction projects and local residents.
At the ceremony, U Htay Oo stated “The completion of Nyaung Wine Bridge contributes to the development of friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan as well as the improvement in living standards of local residents.”
Following that speech, Ambassador HIGUCHI stated “We are glad to know that the bridge will make the lives of over 50,000 local residents of 36 villages convenient. The bridge will provide not only safe transportation but also means of transportation for various agricultural products. We hope that the residents provide maintenance the constructed bridge for long-term sustainability.” He concluded the speech appreciating the efforts of U Htay Oo, the construction committee, construction company and people concerned for the implementation.
The Government of Japan provided US$308,324 under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for “The Project for Bridge Construction of Nyaung Wine Village in Hinthada Township, Ayeyarwady Region”. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistances in the future, and anticipates that it will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
