Handover and Opening Ceremony for a School in Magway Region

The handover and opening ceremony of Salin Basic Education High School took place in Salin Township, Magway Region on 27th June 2015.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, H.E. Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for National Planning and Economic Development, U Phone Maw Shwe, Prime Minister of Magway Region, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project and local residents.

At the ceremony, H.E. Dr. Kan Zaw stated, “We know education is very important because knowledge is necessary nowadays. The Government of Japan and its people provided a school building that would raise those who will bear the future of Myanmar. I would like to thank the Government of Japan and its people for the great support.”

Following the speech, Ambassador HIGUCHI stated, “Education supports the nation building of Myanmar. We hope that the students study hard at this school with a proud tradition to build a bright future for Myanmar.” He concluded the speech wishing for a long-lasting Japan-Myanmar friendly relations.

The Government of Japan provided US$267,716 under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for “The Project for Construction of Salin Basic Education High School in Salin Township, Magway Region.” The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistances in the future, and anticipates that it will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
