
The handover and opening ceremony of Kyungale Village Water Supply System in Kawthmu Township, Yangon Region was held on 20th July 2015.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Yuhei MURAKAMI, Official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project and local residents.
At the ceremony, U Thar Sein, Secretary of Village Development Committee, said, “Local residents in Kyungale Village are now able to access water at home without spending time and energy to fetch water. Because of the access to the cleaner water, the number of patients for diseases such as diarrhea has decreased. Moreover, this water supply system indirectly benefits the health, education and socio-economic activities of local residents.”
Following that speech, Mr. MURAKAMI stated that the Kyungale Village Water Supply System would provide sufficient water for local residents. He urged the water supply committee to maintain for the long-term sustainability of the facility. Then, he appreciated the efforts of the committee, construction company and the people concerned for the implementation. He concluded the speech wishing for a long-lasting Japan-Myanmar friendly relation.
The Government of Japan provided US$110,587 under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for “The Project for Construction of Kyungale Village Water Supply System in Kawthmu Township, Yangon Region”. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistances in the future, and anticipates that it will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
