Handover and Opening Ceremony for a School in Meiktila Township

The handover and opening ceremony of Ah Lel Ywa School in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region was held on 31st July 2015.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, H.E. U Win Shein, Union Minister for Finance, Dr. Zaw Min Aung, Union Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Lin Aung, Union Deputy Minister for Finance, government officials, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents.

At the ceremony, H.E. U Win Shein stated, “Ah Lel Ywa village, my parents’ home village, is also like my home village. One of Myanmar Government’s goals is to alleviate poverty and to improve rural development. Education as well as health and hygiene of Ah Lel Ywa School students would be improved as the Japanese Government and its people have supported a two-storey R.C.C school building. I would like to encourage parents and teachers to cooperate in raising the students’ education level as well as village development.”

Following the speech, H.E. Ambassador HIGUCHI stated, “Education supports the nation building of Myanmar. We hope that the students study hard at this school with a proud tradition to build a bright future for Myanmar.” He concluded the speech wishing for a long-lasting Japan-Myanmar friendly relations.

The Government of Japan provided US$186,632 under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for “The Project for Construction of Ah Lel Ywa Basic Education Branch High School in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region.” The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistances in the future, and anticipates that it will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
