“World Music Festival 2015”

The Embassy of Japan in Myanmar proudly presents “World Music Festival 2015” in collaboration with other foreign missions in Yangon. We will bring international high quality ensembles of contemporary music from France, Germany, Israel, Japan and Switzerland in collaboration with Myanmar musicians, and they will play for 3 nights at Institut Français de Birmanie.

From Japan, we will invite” One Asia Classic Orchestra Selection” which is Japan-Myanmar special collaboration group played together at National Theatre last December(One Asia Joint Concert ~Closing Concert commemorating 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Myanmar and Japan~ )

5. Information of musicians from “One Asia Classic Orchestra Selection”

AZUMI YAMANO (koto – Japanese herp)

Born in Yamaguchi prefecture, Yamano performed at the "Hermitage Japan-Russia International Music Festival" as a soloist along with an orchestra and toured extensively in Europe, Asia and Latin America. In Japan, she performs solo recitals and actively collaborates with Western instruments and artists of different genres.

HIDEKI ISHIGAKI (shakuhachi – Japanese Oboe)

Ishigaki studied shakuhachi under Hozan Yamamoto, a Living National Treasure, and is a Tozanryu master with the art name Seizan Ishigaki II. He was awarded the Best Artist Award and the Incentive Award of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology at the “16th Japanese Hogaku Music Contest” in Kumamoto. He also plays in a duo with shamisen artist Hideki Onoue, under the name of "HIDE+HIDE".

HIDEKI ONOUE (chuzao shamisen – Japanese guiter)

A Fujimotoryu assistant master, in 2006 Onoue formed with Hideki Ishigaki the performance duo "HIDE+HIDE". In 2010, he received the First Prize and a Special Award at the “1st International Terem Crossover Music Competiton” held in Russia.

Min Min Soe (Kyi Waing)

Born in 1973, Han Win Aung learned pattala (bamboo xylophone) and hsaing waing (drum music) at Mandalay State School of Drama & Music for 6 years from the age of 12 and spent 1 year as apprentice of a traditional instrument performer. He won Gold Award at National Level of Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competition 11 times, Silver Award 7 times and Bronze Award 4 times. He has performed in China, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, Italy and other countries. He is currently tutor at Yangon National University of Arts and Culture.

Myo Min Than (Hne)

Born in 1984, Myo Min Than started learning hne (double reed) at the age of 11. In 2006 he graduated from Yangon National University of Arts and Culture. He won Gold Award at National Level of Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competition 14 times, Silver Award 4 times and Bronze Award 6 times. He has performed in Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan other countries and participated in "ASEAN Traditional Music Camp". In 2014 he collaborated with hne blowing on Myanmar traditional music CD "Beauty of Traditional" released by a Japanese label. He is currently tutor at Yangon National University of Arts and Culture.
