The Embassy of Japan in Myanmar presents “Japanese Film Festival” in Mandalay on December 2015, and Yangon on January 2016. We feature 5 films of “youth pure love story” with English subtitle screened after 2009 in Japan.

Live action film adaption of Ikuemi Ryo's omnibus romance comic. A man and woman paralyzed by the deaths of people close to them comfort each other as their mutual attraction grows. Directed by Shinjo Takehiko, master of coming-of-age romances. Film distribution company employee Kanna (Nagasawa Masami) has avoided love since the summer of her first year in high school, when her childhood friend died. She grows close to Roku (Okada Masaki), who works at a publishing company. Roku seems to be without any worries, but in fact, he is haunted by his classmate's death in an accident, which he survived.

In this romance, popular K-POP group T-ARA member Hyomin transforms into a Korean exchange student who teaches Japanese college students all about love. From Me to You director Kumazawa Naoto depicts love with a touch of pathos about the different perspectives on love in Korea and Japan. Korean exchange student Ji-Ho (Hyomin) meets plain college girl Kaede (Shimizu Kurumi) and Kaede's childhood friend Yusuke (Yamazaki Kento). Ji-Ho wants to jumpstart things for this lukewarm couple, and lets loose a series of Korean-style love jinxs on them.

Since entering high school, Noboru Aihara (Takeuchi) has gone mostly unnoticed by his peers. One day, a friendly senior student called Shun Miyazaki (Asuka Kudo) calls him over and introduces him to Yo Momose (Hayami), a student from a neighboring class, then makes a strange request. In order to quell a rapidly spreading rumor that Shun has become romantically involved with Momose despite going out with Tetsuko Kanbayashi (Anna Ishibashi), one of the most popular girls in school, he asks Noboru to pretend to be Momose's boyfriend, temporarily...

(4) "Be Sure to Share"

This taught drama, by Love Exposure Ai no Mukidashi director Sono Shion, stars AKIRA from music group, EXILE in the leading role. Although his father is seriously ill, AKIRA has himself been sentenced to have his life curtailed even sooner. This film powerfully portrays the conflict created when the man reveals the fact of his illness to his family and lover. AKIRA is shocked to hear that his father, (Okuda Eiji) has been hospitalized with cancer. He visits his father each day for one hour only, but the gap between them slowly begins to close. However, he then discovers that he too is dying from cancer.

(5) "It All Began When I Met You"
Directed by Katsuhide MOTOKI
2013, 106min

Omnibus-style portrayal of love between 10 men and women, set at Tokyo Station just before Christmas. Directed by Motoki Katsuhide of Tsuribaka Nisshi. Laden with romantic images shot on location at Tokyo Station, beautifully decorated for its centennial, and nearby landmarks.

Kazuki (Tamaki Hiroshi) doesn't trust women, and Reiko (Takanashi Rin) struggles to achieve her dreams. Takumi (Higashide Masahiro) and Yukina (Kimura Fumino) have a long-distance relationship. Kotoko (Baisho Chieko) runs a cake shop near Tokyo Station. Poignant romance unfolds between men and women of different ages and from different backgrounds.
