
The handover and opening ceremonies of Kyindwe Village Basic Education High School in Kanpetlet Township, Five Schools in Mindat Township, Upgrading Medical Facilities and No.1 Basic Education High School in Matupi Township took place in Chin State on February 3rd, 4th and 5th 2015.
These ceremonies were attended by Mr. Kei MAEDA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Ohn Lwin, Chin State Hluttaw Deputy Speaker, Dr. Ba Maung, Minister for Social Welfare of Chin State, teachers and students, committee chairmen and committee members of the projects and local residents.At the ceremony of No.1 Basic Education High School in Matupi Township, Dr. Ba Maung gave a speech stating “Myanmar and Japan have had good relationships for a long time. The schools are nurturing human resources who would bear the future of Myanmar. The students, teachers and local residents would have to make the effort to maintain this school building for long-term use.” He concluded his speech on behalf of local residents, expressing his deepest gratitude to the Government of Japan and its people.
Following that speech, Mr. MAEDA, stated, “This new school building is a present from the Japanese people to the schoolchildren who are future leaders of Myanmar. The Government of Japan is offering assistance to upgrade and strengthen Myanmar’s education sector. We have assisted 324 education sector projects such as school renovation and new school construction in this country. Due to high need for assistance and the importance of the sector, Japan will continue its assistance to education.” He concluded the speech wishing for a long-lasting Japan-Myanmar friendly relations.
The Government of Japan provided US$507,094 under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for 1) the Kyindwe Village Basic Education High School in Kanpetlet Township, 2) Five Schools in Mindat Township, 3) Upgrading Medical Facilities and 4) No.1 Basic Education High School in Matupi Township, Chin State. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistances in the future, and anticipates that the assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
