Handover and Opening Ceremony for a school in Mindat Township

The handover and opening ceremony of Mindat Basic Education Branch High School in Mindat Township, Chin State, was held on 17th June 2016.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Masahiro FUJIKAWA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Nay Lin Aung, Pyitthu Hluttaw Representative of Mindat Township, U Aung Zaw Win, Mindat Township Education Officer, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents.

At the ceremony, U Nay Lin Aung stated, “Education is the most important factor for the development of Myanmar. Without a school building, students cannot study in such a harsh environment as Chin State. We appreciate the construction of the new school building by the Japanese Government and its people. We hope the students studying in this new school building become the future leaders of Myanmar.”

Following the speech, Mr. FUJIKAWA expressed, “We hope the students maintain this new building for a long-term use and assume vital roles for the development of Myanmar in the future,” and wished for the further development of friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.

The Government of Japan provided US$327,320 under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for “The Project for Construction of Mindat Basic Education Branch High School in Mindat Township, Chin State”. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistance in the future, and anticipates that it will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
