Handover and Opening Ceremony for Aung Bar Jetty

The handover and opening ceremony of Aung Bar Jetty was held on 16th December, 2015.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Kazuyoshi SUZUKI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Soe Myint Thein, Kaw Taung Township Administrator, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project and local residents.

At the ceremony, U Soe Myint Thein stated, “local people in Aung Bar and nearby villages are relying on Aung Bar Jetty, especially in going to school for students, in transferring patients to hospitals and in transporting agricultural and commercial products. We, on behalf of our people, would like to thank the Government of Japan and its people for the great support.”

Following his speech, Mr. SUZUKI stated, “We are very glad to see lives of people from 15 villages will be improved. We expect that the new Jetty will encourage regional development too.” He concluded his speech by appreciating those who participated in the successful completion of the project.

The Government of Japan provided US$228,775 under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme for “The Project for Construction of Concrete Jetty at Aung Bar Village in Kaw Taung Township, Taninthayi Region”. The Government of Japan, under its GGP Scheme, is planning to continue various assistances in the future, and anticipates that it will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
