The Embassy of Japan in Myanmar presents “Japanese Film Festival” in Mandalay from 10th to 12th February 2017. The theme of film this year is “Power of Music”, and 1 film will be shown with Myanmar subtitle (the others are with English subtitle).

A live-action adaptation of Saso Akira's manga about an orchestra. Its director is Kobayasi Syoutarou, whose KAASAN MOM'S LIFE won international acclaim. This musical entertainment film features the participation of world-renowned conductor Sado Yutaka and pianist Tsujii Nobuyuki. Members of a motley orchestra led by young concertmaster Kosaka (Matsuzaka Tori) and wild and mysterious conductor Tendo (Nishida Toshiyuki) reform a prestigious orchestra. At their comeback performance, a "secret" engineered by Tendo is revealed, and miraculous music is played. |

Film adaptation of the novel by Nakata Eiichi, who drew inspiration from a TV documentary. Directed by Miki Takahiro of Girl in the Sunny Place. The Goto Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. (3) A Band Rabbit and a Boy (Directed by SUZUKI Takuji, 2013, 97 min)

A musical drama adapted from Nakazawa Kei's eponymous novel by The Wife of Gegege director Suzuki Takuji. It presents a heartfelt depiction of junior high school students devoted to brass band music. Children were cast from Hamamatsu in Shizuoka Prefecture, the story's setting. Katsuhisa (Kawasaki Kosei), a shy first year junior high school student who makes an easy target for bullies, is troubled by his school's policy of making extracurricular club activities compulsory. However, a strange rabbit (Yamada Maho) leads him to join the brass band, which has the longest practice sessions of all the other school clubs. |
