The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme , will provide a grant aid of US$ 57,277 to “Oak Pho Township Health Department” for their malaria control program in Oak Pho Township in Bago Division. With reference to the health personnel working in Oak Pho, malaria is one of the major health issues in that township. Due to poor knowledge on the preventive measures and inferior access to health facilities and treatment when infected, the incidence caused by malaria has been a concern. In response to this, Oak Pho Township Health Department has adopted the community-based malaria control program to reduce the burden of malaria in target villages along the Bago Mountain Range, situated in the east of the township. The program consists of early diagnosis, proper treatment, and prevention by insecticide treated nets and health education through various channels. Recognizing the importance of the program, the Government of Japan has decided to provide fund for procurement of microscopes, test kits, mosquito nets, insecticide for the nets, drugs, IEC materials (information, education and communication) and motorcycles for malaria outreach activities. The Grant Contract to this effect is signed on 30 August 2005 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. H iroshi Kawamura , Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and Dr. Daw Nor Tin, Township Medical Officer of “ Oak Pho Township Health Department”. |
