JAPAN'S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR PROCUREMENT OF MEDICAL

EQUIPMENT FOR INSTITUTE OF DENTAL MEDICINE IN YANGON

The Government of Japan , under the Japan's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme , will provide a grant aid of US$ 88,140 to “Institute of Dental Medicine, Yangon” for upgrading of its Dental Care Unit.

Yangon Institute of Dental Medicine is one of the teaching and learning institutes in Myanmar and the dental care unit of which offers dental treatment, almost at free of charge, to the people in need. Various treatments are provided to an average of 8,000 patients per year by young doctors in their internship and experienced teaching staff. Majority of the patients visiting the facility to seek dental treatment constitutes the grassroots populations that the Institute has been planning to extend and upgrade its dental care unit. In order to contribute to the effort being made by the Institute, the Government of Japan has decided to provide fund for procurement of 22 dental chairs and units, a high frequency casting machine, a sand blaster, a full automatic burnout furnace and an ultrasonic cleaner for the benefit of the needy.


The Grant Contract to this effect is signed on 16 September 2005 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. H iroshi Kawamura , Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and Dr. Ba Myint, Rector of “ Institute of Dental Medicine, Yangon”.
