The Government of Japan, under
the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme, will provide a
grant aid of US$ 92,313 to “ Jivitadana Sangha Hospital ”
for procurement of medical equipment for the hospital.
Jivitadana Sangha Hospital was established
in 1940 as a charity clinic for monks and later upgraded to a 150-bedded
hospital for all impoverished; monks, nuns and laymen alike in 1983.
The hospital with its specialist departments such as internal medicine,
general surgery, pediatrics, obstetric and gynecology, ophthalmology,
etc. covers all the townships in Yangon Division. In consideration
of the prompt and more efficient diagnosis and care for the patients
seeking treatment at the facility, equipment such as Phaco Emulsification
Unit, Slit Lamp, Tonometer and Wet Field Coagulator for eye surgery,
X-ray Machine, Nasal Telescope, Dental Chair Unit, Ultra Scaler,
Water Distiller, Programmable Universal Centrifuge, Diathermy and
Anaethestic Machine with Ventilator will be funded. It is expected
that the contribution would benefit the patients in need and improve
hospital's medical services.
The Grant Contract to this effect is signed
on 9 March 2006 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr.
Hiroshi Kawamura, Minister/Deputy Chief of Mission , Embassy of
Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Ko Ko Gyi, Chairman of “
Jivitadana Sangha Hospital ”.
