7 September 2006

The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme , will provide a grant aid of US$ 56,084 to “ Thaton District Hospital ” for procurement of medical equipment for that hospital.

The hospital was established in 1856 as a 100-bedded facility to provide treatment in regard to general medicine, child health, obstetric and gynecology, surgical and dental cases. During its 150 years of operation, additional buildings including Pediatrics Ward, Outpatient Department, Operation Theatre and District Medical Office were constructed, enabling the hospital to accommodate up to 150 beds with more specialties. In recognition of the hospital's attempt for improvement, the Government of Japan, under the same Scheme, had constructed a water supply system for the hospital in 2001. This time, aiming towards prompt and more efficient diagnosis and cure for the patients seeking treatment at the facility, equipment such as Gastroscopy, ultrasound, bedside monitor, diathermy, anesthetic ventilator and mobile x-ray will be funded. It is expected that the contribution would benefit the needy patients and improve the hospital's medical services.
