The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme , will provide a grant aid of US$ 72,186 to “Min Gan Roads Construction Committee” for construction of roads and culverts in Min Gan Ward in Sittwe, Rakhine State .
Min Gan Ward was established in 1989 to relocate some landless households dwelling in Sittwe center. Since the establishment, the residents have been struggling with mud in rainy season and dust in dry season on the provided earth road hampering their daily activities. In particular, students, elders, sick people and pregnant women who need to travel to Sittwe face difficulties in transportation. Moreover, poor infrastructure limits community's access to public facilities and the flow of goods and services. In consideration of the all round improvement of the people living in Min Gan Ward, construction of all-weather tar roads and five culverts on different locations on those roads will be funded under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Programme. The project will be implemented with the technical assistance from Bridge Asia Japan (BAJ), a Japanese NGO which has been operational in Myanmar since 1995. It is expected that the residents in Min Gan Ward will have better and secure access to other parts of the city and upgrade their living standard.
The Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 3 October 2006 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Thet Lwin, Patron on behalf of the Chairman of “ Min Gan Roads Construction Committee”.
