The Government of Japan will provide a grant aid of US$ 65,531 to “Wailuwun Monastic School Construction Committee” for construction of Wailuwun Monastic School in Kyone Pyaw Township in Pathein District, Ayeyarwaddy Division, under the scheme of Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance.
Based upon the need in the area, the monks in this monastery had introduced formal education to the primary school age children whose families are mostly daily wagers and small-scale farmers, in 1961 in religious buildings without charge. As the number of these schoolchildren has risen to more than 200 during the course of operation, the need to expand the school facility becomes a big concern for the monks and the parents who can not afford to solve the issue by themselves. In response to the request of this monastic school, the Government of Japan has decided to provide a better learning environment for the schoolchildren; a one-storeyed reinforced concrete school building with school furniture and other facilities. It is expected that the support will contribute to the improvement of schoolchildren's access to quality education as well as the community development in the area and will also strengthen the good friendship between the people of Japan and Myanmar .
The Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 20 October 2006 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Hla Myint, Chairman of “ Wailuwun Monastic School Construction Committee”.
