The Government of Japan will provide a grant aid of US$ 84,000 to “ Central Women Hospital , Yangon ” for improvement of hospital facilities under its Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme . This hospital was established in 1897 to provide free medical and surgical treatment in regard to obstetric and gynecology to women from the whole Lower Myanmar . Since the establishment, various wards had been extended and the hospital has now become an 800-bedded specialist tertiary facility for women and newborns. In response to the request of the hospital, the Government of Japan under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme will provide funding for installation of two new hospital elevators to replace the existing old ones which are no longer useful. The new lifts will contribute to timely and efficient transportation of patients and medical equipment between the operation theatres and patient wards. It is expected that the assistance would benefit the needy patients in reduction of risk and improve the hospital's medical services.
