JAPAN'S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE

for Construction of Three Primary Schools in Thone Gwa,

Kyauktan and Thanlyin Townships,Yangon Division .

The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , will provide a grant aid of US$ 234,088 to construct 3 primary schools with related facilities in Thone Gwa, Kyauktan and Thanlyin townships, Yangon division.

Each school situated in Sabe Chaung Village in Thone Gwa, Thaung Kyi village in Kyauktan and Ngapa Village in Thanlyin were established in small wooden hall-type buildings in 1953, 1963 and 1979 respectively and all of them need to be renovated immediately. Besides, the number of students admitted to those schools has risen and the need for proper classrooms becomes a big concern for the teachers and the parents.

In order to provide a better learning environment for the schoolchildren, a one-storeyed reinforced concrete school building with 8 classrooms, school furniture and water and sanitation facilities will be constructed at each location under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Programme. Each new facility will be able to accommodate up to 400 students.

he Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 27 October 2006 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Aye Myint, Secretary of “ Union Solidarity and Development Association, Yangon Division”
