JAPAN'S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE

for provision of safety measures on the road between Nati and Pasan villages and

construction of bridges in Kan Main Village in Northern Shan State

22 November 2006

The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme , will provide a grant aid of US$ 73,009 to “Village Elders for Regional Development Committee” for provision of safety measures and construction of two bridges on Theinni-Kwan Lone Road in Northern Shan State .

Theinni-Kwan Lone Road is an important route for transportation of people, goods and services in Northern Shan State . There is a sensitive sandy mountain area between Nati and Pasan villages on the road causing inconveniences to all users and limiting community's access to public facilities. For that reason, a diversion road has been constructed by Public Works of the Ministry of Construction.

This time, Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance is to provide 6,000 guard posts and two 30 feet span car-passable reinforced concrete bridges on the Nati-Pasan diversion road. It is expected that the users of that road will have secure and better access to other parts of the country and this assistance will contribute to the all round development of the area and to strengthen traditional friendship between Japan and Myanmar .

The Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 22 November 2006 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Khaung Zei, Chairman of “ Village Elders for Regional Development Committee”.
