The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme (GGA) , will provide a grant aid of US$ 78,895 to “Aung Zabu Monastic School Construction Committee” for construction of a schoolhouse for Aung Zabu Monastic School in Sinchan Village in Kawhmu Township , Yangon Division.
The history of this school dates back to 1990 as a philanthropy center for youth in the monastery compound to take care of 60 poor orphans both from the neighborhood and remote areas. In 1993, in realization of the importance of formal learning for those children, the center introduced primary school education curricula prescribed by the government from kindergarten to fourth grade and turned out to be a monastic education school. Since then, the school had added a higher grade each year and started to accommodate up to eighth grade in 1997. Presently, there are 723 students and the space is insufficient. In order to provide a better learning environment for them, a two-storeyed reinforced concrete school building comprised of 9 classrooms and an office, school furniture and water and sanitation facilities will be funded under GGA. It is expected that the assistance will benefit the students in their pursuit of formal learning and strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar .
The Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 5 December 2006 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Aung Thaung, Chairman of “ Aung Zabu Monastic School Construction Committee”.
