JAPAN'S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE

for Construction of Ya Theyt Pyan Rural Sub-Health Center in Kayin State

16 January 2007

The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme (GGA) , will provide a grant aid of US$ 18,610 to “Ya Theyt Pyan Rural Sub-health Center Construction Committee” for construction of a sub-health center in Ya Theyt Pyan Village in Hpa-an Township in Kayin State .

The village is situated about 6 miles (10 kilometers) away from the state's capital Hpa-an. Due to the inferior access to health facilities in town, the villagers have to rely on traditional medicine available in the neighborhood for their various health needs which sometimes is in vain.

In regard to this, the Government of Japan, under Japan 's GGA, will provide funding for construction of the rural sub-health center equipped with water and sanitation facilities. It is expected that the contribution would fulfill the villagers' desire of having a village health center managed by qualified full-time health staff thereby improving their access to better and timely medical services.

The Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 16 January 2007 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Aung Tun Myint, Chairman of “ Ya Theyt Pyan Rural Sub-health Center Construction Committee”.
