JAPAN'S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE

for Construction of Taung Ka Lat Rural Sub-Health Center in Kayin State

16 January 2007

The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme (GGA) , will provide a grant aid of US$ 20,316 to “Taung Ka Lat Rural Sub-health Center Construction Committee” for construction of a sub-health center in Taung Ka Lat Village in Hpa-an Township in Kayin State .

The village is situated about 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the state's capital Hpa-an. Due to the inferior access to health facilities in town, the villagers have to rely on traditional medicine available in the neighborhood for their various health needs which sometimes is in vain. The villagers have felt need for a rural health center in the village managed by qualified full-time health staff.

In recognition of the villagers' attempt for establishment of a health center, the Government of Japan, under Japan 's GGA, will provide funding for construction of the rural sub-health center equipped with water and sanitation facilities. It is expected that the contribution would improve the villagers' access to better and timely medical services.

The Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 16 January 2007 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Shwe Hla Sein, Chairman of “ Taung Ka Lat Rural Sub-health Center Construction Committee”.
