The Government of Japan , under the Japan's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme (GGA) , will provide a grant aid of US$ 78, 200 to “Hpa-an Pre-School Construction Committee” for construction of a pre-school building in Hpa-an Township, Kayin State. Hpa-an pre-school was started in 1966 with 100 children and there are currently 210 children from 3 to 5 years-old. As it is the only public pre-school in Hpa-an city, its popularity is always high. Although about 300 student are waiting to attend the school, it cannot accept more students due to the shortage of the classrooms. In realization of the importance of pre-school education and to help working parents, a one-storey reinforced concrete school building comprised of 6 classrooms attached with toilets, furniture, playground with some equipment and water supply facilities will be funded under GGA. After completion, it will be able to accommodate up to 320 children. It is expected that the assistance will provide better educational environment to children as well as more working opportunities to their families.
The Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 19 January 2007 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Khin Maung Yin, Chairman of “ Hpa-an Pre-school Construction Committee”.
