The Government of Japan , under the Japan 's Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme (GGA) , will provide a grant aid of US$ 46,306 to “Dekhinayarma Monastic School Construction Committee” for construction of a School building in Oung Kone Village in Lewe Township , Mandalay Division.
This monastic school was established in 1991 to provide formal primary education to 60 children from Oung Kone and neighboring villages. It was upgraded to middle school in 1994 and the number of students has risen up to 170. Since the opening, the classes have been conducted in the religious buildings such as shrine hall and rest house of the monastery. Because of the tight space, the need for a proper school building becomes a big concern for the teachers and the parents.
To cope with the issue, the Government of Japan will provide funding through its GGA Programme for construction of a two-storyed reinforced concrete school building comprised of 6 classrooms, school furniture and water and sanitation facilities. It is expected that the improved learning environment will benefit the students in their pursuit of formal studies.
The Grant Contract to this effect was signed on 19 January 2007 at the Embassy of Japan in Yangon , between Mr. Tetsuro Amano, Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n , Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Kyi Aung, Chairman of “ Dekhinayarma Monastic School Construction Committee”.
