Synopsis
A puppy is sent from Akita Prefecture in northern Japan to Professor Ueno of Tokyo University . Though ailing, it soon recovers and although Professor's daughter promises to take care of it, she soon marries and leaves home. Professor looks after the dog and names it Hachiko. The Professor's nearest train station is Shibuya and Hachiko makes it a practice to accompany him there early in the morning and also trots back to wait for him there in the evening. This further endears him to the Professor .One day, however, Hachiko suddenly awakes and dashes wildly down to the Shibuya Station.
But he will never meet his master again. Professor Ueno suffers a fatal stroke at the very moment Hachiko wakes from his nap. Even so, daily, without fail, Hachiko makes his way to Shibuya station to wait for the master until his very last day.
