The Japanese Speech Contest 2007 will be held in Yangon , at Nikko Hotel Royal Lake , Ballroom 2, on 20 October 2007 , Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. , under the auspices of the E mbassy of Japan and the Myanmar Association of Japan Alumni (MAJA).
Any Myanmar national , with a qualification of Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level - 2 or with equivalent proficiency, is eligible to apply, with the exception of those who have resided in Japan for over six months or those who were awarded 1 st prize at Japanese Speech Contests during the last two years.
Application Forms for the Contest can be obtained from the Information and Culture Section of the Japanese Embassy at 100 Natmauk Road , Bahan Township in Yangon from 14 to 28 August 2007 , and in Mandalay at HITO Center , between 80 th and 12 th Streets, from 14 to 28 August 2007 , from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Interested applicants are free to choose a title/topic for their speech and are required to personally submit a written summary of their speech in approximately (400) Japanese characters, together with a cassette taped version of the actual speech, to the above sites not later than 28 August 2007. Selection of contestants will be carried out based on the written summary and the taped versions of the applicant's speech. The duration of the speech should be between 4 - 5 minutes. The contestants will also be asked questions, by the Judges, on their speech topic (for about two minutes) on the day of the Contest, after they deliver their speech.
The list of selected candidates nominated to participate in the contest will be announced on the notice board of the Embassy of Japan in Yangon and HITO Center in Mandalay respectively, on 24 September 2007 , Monday.
