THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT'S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE (GGA) FOR

" The Project for Construction of Kyundaw and Dawhsasi Primary School in Kayah State "

The Japanese Government under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme (GGA) decided to extend assistance 66,859 US dollars to a humanitarian assistance project in Kayah State entitled “The Project for Construction of Kyundaw and Dawhsasi Primary Schools in Kayah State ”.

Mr. Masashi OGAWA, Acting Deputy Chief of the Mission and Counselor, Embassy of Japan to the Union of Myanmar signed the grant contracts on 31 st July 2007 with U Ye, Chairman of “Kyundaw and Dawhsasi Primary Schools Construction Committee”.

In Kyundaw village, the residents in this area have endeavored to repair the school by themselves. However, the number of classrooms is not enough with the increase of the number of students. Meanwhile, in Dawhsasi village, there has been no school building and students have to study in a tenancy.

On the base of such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for construction of two buildings, toilets and water supply facilities, and rehabilitation of one building through its GGA scheme.

It is expected that th is GGA program w ill enable the 383 students in the said schools to study in good environment.
