The Embassy of Japan will be presenting The Children on the Island ( Nijuyon no Hitomi ) directed by Yoshitaka Asama at the Assembly Hall of the Embassy on 30 August 2007 ,Thursday ( 2:30 p.m. ) and 31 August 2007 ,Friday ( 2:30 p.m. ).
Tickets for the Film Show will be available at the Embassy from 9:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 17:30 from 16 August to the day of the show. One ticket is for one person only. Please note that the total number of audience is limited.

Synopsis
In 1928, Hisako Oishi becomes a primary school teacher on Shodo Island in Seito Inland Sea. The number of her pupils, the sons and daughters of the village shopkeepers, is only twelve. Slowly Hisako gains the confidence and love of the children. She is saddened when one of the students quits school on account of poverty.
Escalation of war alarms Hisako. She dislikes both soldiers and war. She is helpless in the face of the situation. 8 years after the war is over, she returns to the little school. A welcoming reception is planned for her by her original pupils. Of the twelve, only a few women and a blind man, who lost his sight in battle, are left.
