THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE

FOR

“THE PROJECT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF DAIK U MOTHER AND CHILD HEALTH CENTER and PROVISION OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT IN BAGO DIVISION ”

The Japanese Government , under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , decided to extend assistance of US$ 80,833 to a humanitarian assistance program in Bago Division entitled “The Project for Construction of Daik U Mother and Child Health Center and Provision of Medical Equipment in Bago Division”.

Mr. Tetsuro AMANO, Minister – Counselor, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar and Dr. Daw Mi Mi Khine, Township Medical Officer of Daik U Township Hospital , signed the grant contract on 1 St February 2008 .

Daik U Township hospital was established in 1954 as a 25-bedded facility to provide treatment in general medicine, child health, obstetric and gynecology, as well as surgical and dental cases. In recognition of the hospital's attempt for providing better health care for the population of Daik U Township, the Government of Japan decided to fund a building for mother and child health center, and medical equipment such as a delivery bed, a operation light, a sterilizer, a patient trolley, 5 baby cots, 4 midwife kits, 2 weighting scales, a D&C set and so on.

It is expected that this assistance will improve the hospital's medical service and benefit patients in the area.
