The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, granted US$ 62,628 for p rovision of medical equipment for Mindat District Hospital in Chin State .
Mr. Tetsuro AMANO, Minister-counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission , the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar , and Dr. U Nyi Nyi Min, Medical Superintendent/District Medical Officer of the Mindat District Hospital , a recipient organization, signed the grant contract on 14 th February 2008 .
The Hospital was established in 1951 as a 50-bedded facility to provide treatment in general medicine, child health, obstetrics and gynecology, as well as surgical and dental cases. In recognition of the hospital's attempt for providing better health care for the population of Mindat Township as it is upgraded to 100-bedded facility soon, the Government of Japan decided to fund equipment such as 3 oxygen concentrators, 2 suction machines, an autoclave, a diathermy, an ultrasound, a boiling sterilizer, a patient monitor, a nebulizer, an anaesthetic machine with ventilator, 2 generators, a step-up transformer with a regulator and 3 office equipment for production of health education materials.
It is expected that this assistance will improve the hospital's medical service and benefit patients in the area.
