The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, granted US$ 21,308 for provision of medical equipment for the Kanpetlet Township Hospital in Southern Chin State.
Mr. Tetsuro AMANO, Minister-counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission , the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and Dr. U Thuya Soe, Medical Superintendent/Township Medical Officer of the Kanpetlet Township Hospital , a recipient organization, signed the grant contract on 26 th February 2008 .
The Hospital was established in 1971 as a 16-bedded facility to provide treatment in general medicine, child health, obstetrics and gynecology, as well as surgical and dental cases. In recognition of the hospital's attempt for providing better health care for the population of Kanpetlet Township , the Government of Japan decided to fund a solar electric power system, together with equipment such as a dental chair, dental instrument sets, a glucometer, a nebulizer, an electrocardiograph (ECG), a minor operation set and an electric sterilizer .
It is expected that this assistance will improve the hospital's medical service and benefit patients in the area.
