The Government of Japan , under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , decided to extend assistance of US$ 85,941 to a humanitarian assistance program in Kayin State entitled “The Project for Construction of Light of Education Boarding House in Kayin State ”.
Mr.Tetsuro AMANO, Minister – Counselor, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Saw Nanda Kyaw, Chairman of the Committee for Construction of Light of Education Boarding House of Naungbo Village signed the grant contract on 4 March 2008 .
As there is no high school in Naungbo village, Kayin state, many students from the village go to high schools in Hpa-an city. Although the residents in the village have tried to provide boarding houses for students from the village who study in Hpa-an city, they could construct a boarding house only for female students because of a financial difficulty. In order to provide proper living and learning environment for all the students from Naungbo village, this fund under the Japanese GGA will be used to construct a two-storey reinforced concrete boarding house for male students in Hpa-an city.
It is expected that the assistance will contribute to better education of the students from Naungbo village, and will strengthen traditional friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar .
