The third emergency relief goods consisting of 5,000 Blankets, 3,600 Polyester Tanks, 40 Water Tanks, 40 Generators and 40 cord reels have arrived at the Yangon International Airport on 17 May 2008 from Japan . The Handing Over ceremony of the emergency relief goods was held at the Airport, attended by His Excellency Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Deputy Minister for Social Welfare Relief and Resettlement, and His Excellency Mr. Hitoshi Kimura, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan on 18 May 2008.
The Government of Japan decided on 15 May 2008 to extend the third emergency relief goods equivalent to about U.S.$ 380,000 in total, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to the Government of the Union of Myanmar, to help people of Myanmar who are seriously suffering from cyclone Nargis. This is an additional emergency aid, following its first aid on 05 May 2008 and second aid on 07 May 2008 . The total amount of the emergency relief goods from the Government of Japan is equivalent to U.S. $ 950,000. In addition, the government of Japan decided on 09 May 2008 to provide to Myanmar emergency assistance of U.S. $ 10 million through UN agencies.
The Government of Japan has decided to extend the emergency humanitarian relief, considering the friendly relationship between the two countries and the scale of the disaster.
