Synopsis:
Set in the countryside, this is a portrait of friendship and friction between young boys in a village and new boys who have fled there from a city during the World War II. In October 1944, as war conditions worsen with the Allied bombing of Japanese cities, Shinji Kazama evacuates to his relatives in Toyama . He is first approached by Takeshi, the local leader of kids of his age. Although Shinji is uncomfortable with the idea of life in a farmhouse, he immediately feels Takeshi's friendship.
At the beginning of the New Year, Shinji goes to a nearby town to pick up his luggage which arrives from Tokyo . There, he gets mixed up with a gang of kids and is chased around town. Just as he's cornered and things are looking grim, Takeshi turns up and saves him. When spring arrives, Sudo, the assistant class leader, plots against Takeshi and cleverly steals Takeshi's position of authority among the kids. Takeshi is humiliated before all of his followers, but he resolutely defends himself. At this time, Shinji stands by him as a close friend.
Finally, the war ends and the day comes for Shinji to return home to Tokyo . His relatives and many friends come to see him off, but Takeshi is nowhere to be seen……………..
