The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has invited submissions from the public to create a logo and catch line for “Mekong-Japan Exchange Year 2009” and has received 98 entries for the logo and 128 for the catch line from inside and outside of Japan . As a result of consultations among government representatives at a working-level preparatory meeting of the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year held in Bangkok in August, the following logo and catch line were selected. This logo and catch line will be used commonly in Japan and the Mekong region countries ( Cambodia , Laos , Myanmar , Thailand and Viet Nam ).

(English) Together toward the future, Mekong and Japan
It was agreed at the Japan-Mekong Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Tokyo in January 2008 to celebrate 2009 as the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year to further expand exchanges between Japan and the Mekong region countries. Relations between Japan and the Mekong region countries have been deepening rapidly in wide-ranging areas recently.
In 2009, a variety of exchange programs such as political dialogues, economic events, cultural and youth exchanges and promotion of tourism between Japan and the Mekong region countries are scheduled to be held. On the occasion of the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year 2009, it is expected that the mutual understanding between Japan and Mekong region countries will deepen further, and cooperative relations between Japan and Mekong will further expand toward the future.
