The Government of Japan, under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , decided to extend assistance of US $51,926 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “ The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment for Falam District Hospital in Chin State ”.
Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi , Minister/Counselor, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and Dr. Nyunt Oo Maung, Medical Superintendent of Falam District Hospital, signed the grant contract on 3 rd December 2008.
Falam District Hospital was established in 1875 as a clinic and has been gradually upgraded to a 200-bedded district hospital. In recognition of the hospital's attempts for providing better health care for the population of Falam district, the Government of Japan decided to fund medical equipment including an ultrasound, three oxygen concentrators, two electric suction machines, an ECG machine, an autoclave, a patient monitor, a diathermy, a nebulizer, an electric vacuum, an orthopedic set and a solar refrigerator.
It is expected that this assistance will improve the hospital's medical service and benefit patients in the area, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
